Keeping the review spoiler free what I can tell you is it's a great monsters vs. robots movie with a lot of action and great special effects. The actors all do a fine job The Missus didn't care for Charlie Hunnam but I thought he was good in the role. There are some funny moments which got a big response from the kids in the audience, most of these moments are from Charlie Day who does a great job in his role. Where it lacks is the plot can be sometimes predictable and one of the scientist characters played by Burn Gorman comes off as acting a bit hammy, but the good outweighs the bad here so lets get right to Robski's MALE Scale Review of 1 to 10:
Midgets (category rated on my love of midgets and casting of midgets in the film): There are no midgets in this movie and short Asians do not count = 0
Action (category rated on the gratuitous action and/or violence in the movie): Lot's of action, lots of special effects, lots of things being blown up = 10
Length/Laughs (category rated on my ADD need for a movie running time of 90 minutes or less and amount of humor in the film): I like a good 90 minute film while this one runs for 131 minutes the movie has a good pace and very few dull moments, I only looked at my watch once. As for laughs there is some humor added in which mostly works so I only deduct a point for the one time I glanced at my watch = 9
Emotion: (category rated on emotional content of the film, points deducted for emotion as I hate to feel feelings at the movies) : This movie tries to elicit feelings from the audience which could work for some people but didn't work for me. I found those emotional moments to be action movie cliches and overall predictable. Therefore I didn't feel feelings so I only deduct a point for their attempt = 9
Overall damn fine summer movie, again not a perfect movie but worth seeing on a big screen. If you do go a few minutes into the end credits there is an extra scene you will want to stay for, most of my audience had left before it came on.
I am giving this movie 4 out of 5 Limp Wrists... till next time
